Year 8 Independent Lesson Work
Year 8, your Task is to complete the Lessons below during this time away. Each Lesson has a scanned Text book page. Your First job will be to read the information and make some summary notes of new information that you have learned (include diagrams if they help you). Then you must write out the questions and answer in complete sentences (keep your presentation neat). Finally you must make green pen corrections, when you check your answers against the mark scheme included with each lesson. This work will be checked for both completion and presentation on your return (achievement points and more rewards will be given to the best!)

Easter Holidays - Research Project
Your task is to research 3 of the most important Scientific Discoveries from 3 different time periods. The first discovery must be from before the 19th Century, The second discovery from the 20th Century and finally one in the 21st Century. You must explain why you think it is the most important (remember there will have been many important discoveries so you must include your opinion). You can either write your report on MS Word (no more than 2 pages in length) or in the form of a PowerPoint Presentation. Feel free to include diagrams but make sure you do not copy and paste information, it should be written in your own words. The Deadline to hand in to your Teacher is Monday 20th April by midday.

May Half Term (25th - 29th May)
Wildlife Photography May Half Term Challenge
Your task during this half term (now that lock down rules have been slightly reduced) is to go out and take a picture of the most interesting biological specimen (either plant or animal) you can find in the surrounding neighbourhood (if you have an exotic Pet and you think it would be an interesting specimen then you can use it also). You will then need to research the specimen you found, finding out the scientific name and some facts about it life-cycle and how is survives. Email your picture and facts to your teacher - Deadline is Monday 1st June.
If you do not have a garden, Nunhead Cemetery and of Course Peckham Rye are excellent places to find organisms (Reptiles live in Lake in Peckham Rye! and can be easily seen on a sunny day) but please obey all Social Distancing rules while out and remember do not harm any organism on your quest to get your perfect picture.

For your Final task this week - Create a mind-map / revision mat on as many topics that you can remember that you have covered in Year 7 (your ranking test could cover some of these areas. To get you started here are some of the overall topics you studied and remember to use you revision guide to help you!)
Forces , The Solar System, Atoms and compounds , Cells, Breathing , joints and muscles, Light and the eye, Sound, States of matter, burning fuels, Reproduction.

Week Thirteen (Start 6th July)
No lessons have been set for this week as you will be conducting Ranking assessment in many of your subjects. Your Science Ranking Exam will be on Tuesday 7th July during your live remote lesson. Make sure you email your teacher any questions if you are unsure about what to do well in advance of this day.
Week Fourteen (Start 13th July - Final Week of Term)
Project Challenge is to build a Tumble Glider and try and set a record for minutes in flight. (You will obviously need some help with someone recording your efforts and then send to your teacher.) Remember you can experiment with different sizes and materials before settling on your final design. The video link below will take you to a video to demonstrate how to build this simple yet clever gliders.
